Women’s empowerment is a key factor in the overall development of a family and a community. The Sakhi program promotes sustainable women run grassroots institutions like Self Help Groups (SHGs) to act as vehicles for empowerment. 2000 SHGs organized in 174 village level associations impacting lives of 24,000 families are being set up under Sakhi by 2021. The program is geared to mobilize rural women and invest in developing their capacities around leadership, skill development, savings and entrepreneurship. As of September 2017, upon completion of 1 year of project 871 SHGs involving 11,189 women with a total of Rs 1.8 Crores as savings are involved in the program. 529 SHGs have been linked with banks and Rs 3.4 Crores have been generated as credit through 7,925 loans. Records of 787 SHGs have got computerized. HZL is partnering with a leading women’s federation Saheli Samiti with technical support from Manjari Foundation to achieve scale and sustainability in this program.


To promote women’s empowerment, leadership as well as access to skills and resources through sustainable, women run grass-root institutions like SHGs, village level associations and regional federations.
